Hundreds came out to the city's first Military River Parade on Saturday to honor the men and women who have served our country.

Organizers said having the city of San Antonio, or "Military City USA," host a parade along the city's Riverwalk for the armed forces is one way to say thank you.

The parade on Saturday featured 25 colorful floats, all saluting the nation's military.

"I think it's very nice," said Richard Salmon, whose son is in the military. "And, it's the first time that San Antonio has honored the military with a parade and we're so proud of ourselves."

Saturday's salute was to all branches of the military, including veterans and military support groups.

Those in the armed forces attending the parade said it's greatly appreciated.

"It's an honor to be recognized," said one soldier. "So, it's great."

Many participants traveled from all over the state to be a part of the parade.

Some of the kids out there, like Travis Tondre, said he can't wait for the next parade.

"I think it's a great event," said Tondre. "It should be done every year."
