Do you feel safe while alone at night? It’s a question Gallup said 31 percent of San Antonians said no to in a survey whose results were released Thursday.
Of those surveyed in San Antonio, 68 percent said they did, and one percent said they didn’t know.
This comes as crime in the San Antonio has generally fallen over the last year.
Violent crime is down 14 percent city-wide and property crimes are down 17 percent city-wide, according to police statistics.
A total of 1,858 people in the San Antonio area were asked the question, according to Gallup.
“I don’t really agree with the list, especially considering Houston and New York, both places I’ve lived, are higher,” said Bharad Sriranga, who moved to San Antonio a year ago and said it’s the safest city he’s ever lived in.
First on the list was Minneapolis, with a full 80 percent of those surveyed answering in the affirmative. Last on the list was Memphis, which split 50-50.
“Maybe they only asked people in certain parts of town,” said Raymond Macias, who added that he feels very safe in San Antonio.
Gallup said the survey is meant to convey the region as a whole, and surveyed the area accordingly.
