SAN ANTONIO -

San Antonio police said alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in an SUV rollover that sent several people to the hospital early Monday morning.

The crash was reported around 3 a.m. in the 1900 block of West Commerce.

Investigators say the driver lost control of the SUV, struck a utility pole and flipped.

Police say several people were thrown from the SUV and suffered serious injuries.

Three more occupants fled the accident scene on foot but were caught by officers about a block away, San Antonio police said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, but said speed and alcohol were both factors. No charges have been announced.

The conditions of those injured were unknown early Monday morning.
