A small child was hospitalized after he fell out of an apartment window, San Antonio said. It happened Thursday at Las Palmas Complex in the 1200 block of Castroville Road.
Jennifer Carrillo said when she saw her 3-year-old neighbor fall out of the second story window her heart just dropped.
"It was scary," Carrillo said. "I was putting stuff in my trunk, getting ready to go to work and I don't know for some reason I turned around and I just saw what looked like a rag doll, coming out of the window."
Carrillo said she ran to the boy who was on the ground. She said at first the boy was unresponsive.
"I just picked him up and carried him upstairs," she said. "I stabilized him."
She said she carried him to his mother who was devastated and said his injuries looked to be severe.
Tito Gallegos said he saw the family leave to the hospital and that it is not uncommon for residents at the Las Palmas apartments to leave their windows open, but he never imagined something like this would happen.
"I feel really bad about hearing about it," said Tito Gallegos. "I hope he makes it and comes out alive, but it's a pretty big drop from there."
The boy was taken to University Hospital. Carrillo said before the boy was transported he was responsive.
"It just scared me point blank because I have small children of my own," she said. "They are the same age as that little boy. I mean that could have been my kids that fell out of that window."
