San Antonio police: Man pays car bill with stolen money order
SAPD: Mark Moreno, 25, captured on surveillance video and charged with forgery
A Southeast Side man, Mark Moreno, 25, is accused of stealing a money order from a drop box at an auto loan business and using it to pay his own car note.
The case came to light after another customer received a call from Auto Account Service in January, telling him that his auto loan payment was overdue, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
The man told the caller that he had made his payment a few days prior by way of a drop box at the business, the affidavit stated.
San Antonio police said they later learned that Moreno was captured on surveillance video, approaching the drop box soon after the other man had made his payment, the affidavit stated.
They said they also found out the signature on the man’s money order had been altered, and that the money order was used toward a payment on Moreno’s auto loan.
Moreno was arrested Tuesday on a charge of forgery.
