SAN ANTONIO -

A San Antonio police department helicopter was forced to make an unscheduled landing after it helped rescue four stranded boaters in southeast Bexar County.

San Antonio police and fire crews were called to Braunig Lake just before midnight to help assist with the search and rescue of two adults and two children stranded on the lake located near Loop 1604 and Interstate 37.

SAPD's Blue Eagle chopper was also called to the scene and guided the fire department's water rescue team to the boaters.

The group was towed to safety, however, Blue Eagle was forced to land in a parking lot because a warning light came on in chopper's cockpit.

San Antonio police said the light is compared to a check engine light in a car and whenever it comes on, protocol calls for Blue Eagle to land.

A mechanic was called to the scene to check on the chopper. No injuries were reported.
