SAN ANTONIO -

A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized late Monday night after he was wounded during an officer-involved shooting in east San Antonio.

According to San Antonio police Chief William McManus, two gang officers responded to an apartment complex on Delmar Street around 10 p.m. after the teen called police and said he was going to shoot his neighbor.

"(He) just called in, said, 'I'm going to shoot my neighbor.' He gave an address, and that's what we responded to," McManus said.

McManus said the gang officers located the teen at an intersection and he had a gun.

"He was waving a gun around, had a holster on his hip. He encountered two gang officers at that point," he said.

Officers opened fire and the teen fled into an alley. McManus said two other patrol officers arrived on scene and found the teen in the alley, and the teen began to wave a gun at them as well.

Those officers opened fire and the teen was hit multiple times, McManus said.

The teen was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

McManus said he did not know whether the teen was shot by the first pair officers or the second.

A preliminary investigation showed the teen set off fireworks as he was confronted by officers, and that caused the officers to react. However, McManus was unsure whether the teen ever fired gunshots.

No one else was injured during the incident and the teen's name has not been released.

McManus said the four officers involved in the incident would be put on administrative duty while the shooting is investigated.

Their names and the amount of time spent on the force have not been made available.
