A woman's gym that's been in the San Antonio community for about 16 years closed its doors Wednesday, leaving many of its patrons shocked and surprised.
Members of the Women's Super Fitness on Northwest Military found that the doors were locked and that there was a sign up talking about a payment issue.
"I'm pissed," said Mary Cochran, who signed up for a year membership three weeks ago.
Adam Ronald, the director of Women's Super Fitness, said he was surprised, too.
"We're a little bit behind on rent, one and a half months," said Ronald. "We paid all this money. They never returned our phone calls. They never got back to us on trying to work something out.".
The gym's 2,000 members were told this past weekend that both Women's Super Fitness Locations in San Antonio would be closing by the end of October and that their memberships had been sold to Gold's Gym, which is co-ed.
"We don't want to be forced to go to a co-ed gym," said Angela Hernandez, a member for three years. "Everybody is here because it's an all women's gym and now we are forced to go into a situation we are not comfortable with."
Ronald said it's a sad situation.
"It's the fact that we do have members that really needed help and it's unfortunate that we're unable to do that," said Ronald. "But I am confident that Gold's will be able to do that. They have great amenities."
