Sandy has 'nominal' effect on SA air travel

The monster storm wreaking havoc on air travel in the Northeast will have only a "nominal" effect on passengers from San Antonio, according to Rich Johnson, spokesman for San International Airport.

As of Monday, only about a dozen flights were cancelled to airports from Baltimore to New York, Johnson said.

He said about only about a thousand passengers were forced to change their plans for now.

However, Johnson said the number is likely to increase as Hurricane Sandy's full force is felt over next day or two -- and in its aftermath.

Johnson said air travelers are being urged to also check on conditions at hub airports to avoid being stranded in Houston, Dallas or Atlanta.

"You could make it to Atlanta and then find out the flight you were supposed to connect with has been cancelled," Johnson said.
