School zones reinstate Monday
Hand-held cell phones prohibited in zones
Monday morning will be a day for families all over San Antonio -- the beginning of a new school year.
That means the streets and highways will be packed with vehicles. It also means school zones will be in effect.
"The ultimate message is pay attention. We are going to have a lot going on Monday morning," said San Antonio police Officer Marcus Trujillo.
There are certain rules drivers need to be reminded of.
It is against the law to use a hand-held cell phone in a school zone.
"You need to pay attention to the school zones," Trujillo said.
He also added that drivers should really be aware of their surroundings when they pull out of the driveway when it comes to the kids.
"They are distracted," he said. "They are just going back to school (and) they are paying attention to their friends (and) talking with their friends. They might be listening to headphones "
When drivers head out, they also need to remember not all school zones have flashing lights, so they need to pay attention to the posted times the school zones are in effect.
