Scrap yard owner accused of stealing from fire station
Leroy Wahrmund, 43, is owner of Bubba’s Recycling & Salvage
The owner of a metal scrapping business is accused of stealing metal from a Bexar County fire station.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Larry Wahrmund, 43, Thursday in connection with the theft last month from the South Bexar Fire Department.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated the fire chief, David Crowley, called the sheriff’s office July 18 and reported that he was inside the fire station when he heard a noise outside.
Crowley said he noticed two men, loading scrap metal and metal parts from a stockpile outside the station into a pickup, the affidavit stated.
He told investigators he grabbed his gun, went outside and ordered the men to drop to the ground. While one suspect obeyed the order, the other sped away in the truck.
Crowley told deputies that he noticed a sign on the truck bearing the name, “Bubba’s Recycling & Salvage”, along with a telephone number, the affidavit stated.
Investigator said they found out Wahrmund owns the business. They said the second suspect also told them Wahrmund also was involved in the theft, the affidavit stated.
