Security guard shoots self at Potranco and Loop 1604 intersection

A security guard was hospitalized Tuesday evening after he accidentally shot himself while sitting at a traffic light on the city's West Side.

Authorities were called to the intersection of Potranco and Loop 1604 after gunshots were reported around 6:30 p.m.

Officers said the security guard was sitting in his SUV at the intersection, and he somehow shot himself in the upper thigh.

The security guard was flown to University Hospital for treatment. Authorities said he was conscious and alert at the scene.
