Store shut down for selling synthetic pot
A Seguin convenience store is shut down after its owners were busted for selling synthetic marijuana.
It happened Thursday evening at the JG Food Mart, 1011 N. State Highway 123 Bypass.
After police searched the store, they confiscated more than 2,000 grams of synthetic marijuana, about $10,000 in cash, gambling equipment and a gun.
"They came in here and blocked off the whole entire place," said John Perez, a witness. "They would not let anybody in. They had more than four undercover cops. They took the slot machines."
Police served the search warrant on Thursday night and arrested the owner, Jesus Guico Jr., 56, and two employees, Joshua Woosley, 31, and Gerald Spear, 50.
Investigators said the men had been selling "Kush" or synthetic marijuana to customers and students and that they had been warned that the product was illegal to sell.
However, police said they received numerous complaints about the employees continuing to sell similar products, some which were removed from their original packaging into unmarked containers.
Customers said they were shocked to hear about what had been going on in the store.
"I know the managers," said Amanda Anaya, a customer. "I talk to them. We live down the street, so we talked to them and they didn't seem like those type of people, but you never know."
Guico, Woosley and Spear are in custody at the Guadalupe County Jail, charged with delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
The bonds were set at a $100,000 for Guico and at $50,000 for the other two employees.
