A local attorney will run in his 980th lifetime marathon next week, which also coincides with his 68th birthday.
Larry Macon currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records title for most marathons run in one year by a man, which, by New Year’s Eve, is 157 for the year.
“(A) marathon maniac is what I am,” said Macon. “The personal achievement. Accomplishing something. Going from beginning to end and actually doing something. Few things in life can you really do that.”
Macon says he began running marathons at the age of 55, and has been pounding the pavement ever since.
“I've never done this many before,” said Macon. “I can do one more, I can do 10 more, I can do 50 more. If you want to do anything badly enough, you can do it.”
Macon broke his record this year three times over this year, breaking his previous record set back in 2011.
