SAN ANTONIO -

A fatal shooting Wednesday morning left people near the University of Texas-San Antonio dealing with the aftermath of another major crime in the area surrounding UTSA.

Christopher Hinojos, 18, was killed after police said a fight got out of control. Someone shot Hinojos in his car and fled.

Hinojos sought help from a nearby house, but the suspect returned and shot him several more times, killing him instantly.

The suspect is still on the lose, worrying students at nearby UTSA.

"It's just worrying because the illusion that you're safe is breaking down," said Lucas Davila, a UTSA graduate student.

The shooting is just the latest in a string of major crimes along UTSA boulevard in recent months.

Several shootings, stabbings, and large-scale burglaries have dominated area headlines.

"We are aware of these crimes," said San Antonio police Chief William McManus.

He said the department is working on a targeted approach to combat crime in that area, and have several communities under supervision.

UTSA did not comment for this story.
