South side resident Louis Jaramillo, 25, remains in jail after allegedly making his girlfriend’s son stand in scalding water until the skin burned off his foot and ankle.
Records show a judge set bond at $75,000 following Jaramillo’s arrest Monday. The official charge against him is injury to a child.
According to an arrest affidavit, the child’s mother told San Antonio police detectives that Jaramillo was disciplining her 4 1/2-year-old son, by spanking him at first. She said he then took him into a bathroom and locked the door.
The affidavit stated that detectives believe Jaramillo forced the boy to stand in scalding water.
The woman told police she heard her son scream that the water was too hot. Later, she said, she noticed the skin had been burned off his right foot and ankle, the affidavit stated.
The woman also said she and Jaramillo treated the burn at home, but noticed that when they removed the bandage eight days later, it had gotten much worse. She then called EMS, who rushed the boy to University Hospital, the affidavit stated.
The boy underwent numerous surgeries and skin grafts, and still is unable to walk on the foot, the affidavit stated.
A woman who answered the door at Jaramillo’s listed address on S. New Braunfels Avenue Tuesday morning said she knew nothing about it.
“I’m just staying here,” she said. “I just got here about a week ago.”
Although the woman in the apartment said she had just moved in, workers at the complex said they were unaware of any change in occupancy recently.
