Standoff on northeast side ends, one man taken into custody
Police say soldier had gun, threatened suicide
A man threatening suicide and keeping police at bay for over two hours Saturday afternoon is now in custody.
The incident started at about 2:30 p.m. on the 13000 block of El Sendero on the city's northeast side.
Police said they were called out to that location for a 36-year-old man, armed with a pistol and threatening to kill himself.
The man was seen running through a ditch and a field off of Weidner and O'Connor Road.
Police followed him and tried to talk him down, but it didn't work.
They then called in negotiators to talk him down.
During this time, police had to stop trains and traffic on the streets surrounding the location just as safety precaution.
At about 4:30 p.m. police said the man unloaded his gun and surrendered.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
Police would not release the man's name, but said he was active military.
