SAN ANTONIO -

Starting Wednesday, southbound traffic on Blanco Road between San Francisco St. and Fresno Dr. will be shut down for an estimated 6 months as construction crews reconstruct the road, curbs, sidewalks and improve drainage.

Southbound traffic on Blanco will be diverted either east on Fresno Dr. toward San Pedro or west onto Fresno toward I-10.

Northbound traffic will not be closed.

Businesses along that stretch of Blanco are bracing for the inconvenience.

"Thankfully we have a side street- Santa Monica- where people can keep coming to visit the candy store,” said William Samame, manager of Alamo Packing & Candy Co. “It is going to make the trip over here a lot more difficult for our customers.”

But some businesses in the closure zone see the inconvenience for drivers as a plus for them.

"They’re going to need something cold to drink while they’re waiting in traffic and they’re going to need gas,” said Priscilla Esquivel, an employee of a Quick Stop convenience store.
