SAN ANTONIO -

A middle school principal went on damage control Tuesday after he said a student brought a loaded gun to school.

Sam Rayburn Middle School Principal Scott McKenzie wrote in a letter to parents that a student found a gun off campus and brought it to school to show his friends. He assured parents that their children were safe and that the school took all the correct measures.

"The safety and well-being of students and staff are a top priority at Sam Rayburn," McKenzie wrote.

He said a student told administrators about the gun during second period on Tuesday. Officials unloaded the gun and removed the student from campus.
