Sun Bear gets new home at San Antonio Zoo
The San Antonio Zoo’s newest animal may have a familiar face, but what makes him unique is on his chest.
Bobbles, a nine-year-old sun bear, came to the San Antonio Zoo from the Brownsville Zoo.
Sun bears get their name from the white or yellow crescent markings on their chest. They are the smallest of the world’s eight bear species, typically standing between 3.5 and 4.5 feet tall, and weighing between 60-145 pounds.
Sun bears are also known for their distinctively long tongues. Their tongues are almost a foot in length, enabling them to slurp honey from beehives.
