Less than two weeks after his picture was featured in Crime Stoppers stories, a suspect in an East Side fatal shooting is behind bars. Cecil Winn, 54, was arrested Monday on a charge of murder.
San Antonio police had been looking for him since March, when they received the results of tests on bullet casings and other evidence found inside and near his Bee Street home.
In the Crime Stoppers report, which aired on local TV stations June 13, Winn was named as a suspect in the murder of Ernest Hastings, 37. Hastings was found shot to death across the street from Winn’s home, according to an arrest affidavit.
The affidavit stated that several witnesses came forward after the crime, telling detectives that Winn had told them he shot and killed Hastings Feb. 13.
The witnesses said that Winn told them he “snapped” and shot Hastings after Hastings tried to hit his sister, the affidavit stated.
Police said they found bullets inside Winn’s home that matched the caliber used to kill Hastings. They said they also recovered bullet casings outside his home.
