SAN ANTONIO -

Forgery suspect Michael Gonzales, 54, told police the stolen money orders he cashed were his winnings from a bet on a pool game, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Gonzales was arrested Saturday on two counts of forgery, including one against the elderly.

The affidavit stated that one of the victims is 68 years old.

Two women told police they had dropped the money orders into a U.S. postal mailbox, intending to pay their bills, the affidavit stated.

Instead, the name on the money orders was somehow changed with them being made out to Gonzales’, and they were cashed in San Antonio, the affidavit stated.

Investigators said Gonzales told them he was given the money orders as payment for a gambling debt. He said he thought they might be “laundered,” but did not know they were stolen, the affidavit stated.

Gonzales was booked into the Bexar County jail Saturday with bond set at $30,000.
