Suspected DWI driver arrested after crashing into tree

Off-duty Bexar County Deputy assisted SAPD in arrest

SAN ANTONIO -

A man suspected of driving drunk had his ride come to a crashing halt early Saturday.

He slammed into a tree as an off duty county deputy kept close watch.

It happened about 3:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Medical Drive.

Police say an off-duty Bexar County Sheriff deputy saw the man lose control and cross over the median.

He continued onto the northbound lanes of Babcock Rd. and that's when he crashed into a tree.

The off-duty deputy stayed on the scene until a SAPD officer arrived.

Police say the driver was arrested for DWI.
