Suspects sought in home invasion, beating death
Daniel Meza, 40, found in apartment with head trauma in January 2011
San Antonio police are asking for the public's help in finding the people responsible for breaking into a man's apartment and beating him to death.
Police said just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2011, five people wearing dark clothing and masks and armed with handguns forced their way inside Meza's apartment at the Valencia Apartments in the 7800 block of Callaghan Road and ransacked the place.
According to the police report, both of Meza's hands were tied behind his back, his legs were tied together and he was hit in the head repeatedly with some type of blunt object.
Two other people at the apartment at the time were told to get on the ground and follow orders, but they were not hurt.
Police say the suspects -- four men and one woman -- were looking for drugs and money and that it appears they specifically sought Meza out.
They also say the suspects didn't find any drugs at the scene but they did take a car and some electronic devices.
Meza was taken to University Hospital where he died the following day.
Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information which leads to the arrest of the people responsible for Meza's death. As always, you do not have to give your name when you call.
