TSA offers Spring Break travel tips

Spring break officially starts Friday for most students, so expect a busy weekend, especially if you’re traveling by plane.

The holiday is a good time once you get to your destination, so the key is to play it safe and smart before you head off.

Here are some helpful tips from the San Antonio International Airport:

Pack Smart. For the safety and security of the traveling public, TSA, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and/or airlines have prohibited certain items from being brought onto airplanes in carry-on and/or checked bags. To check the prohibited items list head to www.tsa.gov.

Think twice before deciding to lock your bag. Keep in mind, if your bag is locked and TSA cannot open it through other means, the locks may have to be broken. If you do have to lock your bag, TSA locks are recommended.

Passengers should follow the 3-1-1 rule when packing carry-ons. 3.4 ounce bottle or less, 1 quart sized clear plastic bag, and always remember just 1 bag per passenger.

Most airlines are reporting a higher number of travelers all next week, so if you’re heading to the airport, allow 2 hours for parking and check in process. Follow these precautions especially if you have an early morning flight.
