The family of a teenager killed in a traffic accident on Farm Road 791 near Campbellton on Tuesday was struggling with the tragedy Wednesday.
David "D.J" Carlson, 19, was westbound on F.M. 791 when a tractor trailer rig veered into his lane and hit his pick-up head on, accident investigators said.
"D.J. was a loving, hard-working kid,” the teen's father, David Carlson Sr., said.
Both Carlson and his father worked for Halliburton.
“He was on his way back from a job and I was going to meet him for lunch,” Carlson’s father said.
“A call came into the office that there had been a wreck and I had a weird feeling,” Carlson said. “Ends up it was him.”
He said the family is devastated and that their faith is their only strength.
“Jesus Christ. We’ve got a relationship with the Lord and He’s going to carry us through,” Carlson said.
The victim was a star football player at Devine High School and had scholarship offers.
But he opted to work with his father in the oil fields following his graduation last spring.
Funeral arrangements were pending Wednesday with Hurley Funeral Home in Devine.
