A jury sentenced Tiffany James, 20, to nine years in prison in the 2009 death of her then boyfriend.
James was found guilty of manslaughter on Thursday in the November 2009 stabbing death of Antwan Wolford, 18, who was her boyfriend at the time and father of her infant son.
She testified that she stabbed him in self-defense during a heated, physical argument.
Prosecutors said that James should be sentenced to prison and that she made a conscious decision to stab Wolford.
“This is not a case for probation,” argued prosecutor Chris Ramos. “She needs to be punished with prison time.”
The 10-woman, two-man jury ultimately decided on prison time for James after deliberating for little more than two hours on Friday.
