SAN ANTONIO -

Two teenagers were arrested early Tuesday morning in connection with a crime spree that included separate robberies and the beating of an elderly man with a pipe.

Timathy Valverde, 17, faces one count of robbery and Valerio Perez, 18, faces three counts of robbery and one count of injury to the elderly.

San Antonio police said the suspects crime spree began around 8 p.m. Monday when they approached two teenage victims who were walking near West Avenue and Cherry Ridge.

"There were two suspects in a vehicle that showed up. They robbed those two teenagers of money and an MP3 player," said San Antonio police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez.

Police said the victims went to a nearby convenience store to call for help, and the suspects followed them to the store.

An elderly store clerk became a third victim when he tried to come to the defense of the two teens.

Perez beat the clerk over the head with a pipe, San Antonio police said.

That man gave police the same description of the two teens and their car, and police were able to track them down.
