SAN ANTONIO -

A local cemetery owner KSAT 12 reported on last week is now under investigation by the office of the Texas Attorney General.

The Defenders reported Joanne Ramon, owner of the Southern Memorial Park Eastview Cemetery, is operating without a license.

Several people complained the plots at the cemetery were not maintained and heavily weeded.

However, problems have plagued the cemetery dating back to 2008 when administrative action was taken by the Texas Funeral Commission for unethical conduct.

In 2009, they faced administrative penalties for unethical conduct and failure to comply with other legal requirements.

Administrative action was taken against the cemetery in 2010 and twice in 2011. The commission reports Ramon's license expired in March 2011.

Ramon explained their plots are very affordable. They don't make a lot of money, she said, and therefore are on a very limited budget for maintenance, adding they do the best they can.
