Texas' Chicken Fried Steak day is one of the most indulgent days of the year.
In order to celebrate the big food day, KSAT's Facebook fans wrote in to tell us their favorite place to eat during Good Morning San Antonio. More than 540 viewers responded.
There were a lot of choices, but the top four were Bud Jones, Tip Top, Lulu’s and M.K. Davis.
What makes a good chicken fried steak at Bud Jones is a secret. But, "you start off with good beef and everything else falls into place," said Bob Bettencourt.
Same concept holds true at M.K. Davis.
"Everything is made from scratch (starting with) the cutlets delivered daily," said Annette Olivarez, granddaughter of M.K. Davis, the restaurant's namesake.
At the Tip Top Café, that idea is also practiced, along with the practice of putting the gravy under the steak.
“If you put the gravy on top, it will roll off into your lap, so we put it underneath," said James Wrightsil, Tip Top manager
Lulu’s has also been a staple in San Antonio. It was one of Shaquille O’Neal’s all-time favorites. It was definitely one of the top steaks. If you've never been there, you're in for a treat: It's also one of the biggest in San Antonio.
