SAN ANTONIO -

Thousands of oil and gas industry professionals are descending upon the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center for the third annual DUG Eagle Ford Conference and Exhibition.

The two-day event focuses on the expansion of the oil and gas industry in the San Antonio area.

The conference is just another money-making aspect of the area's growing oil and gas industry.

Organizers say it's the largest shale event in the world, with more than 4,000 attendees and about 400 exhibitors expected to attend .

"Clearly, the Eagle Ford play is one of the most prolific plays going on in the United States right now and the economic impact in San Antonio and the surrounding communities is vast," said Rich Eichler, CEO of Hart Energy.

The conference is only in it's third year, but has grown considerably since it's inception.

Organizers say that's a good indicator that the Eagle Ford industry is booming.

"It's putting a lot of people to work that's giving a lot of small business a great chance to increase their revenues and so it's great," said Eichler. "It's great for the American public, it's a great oil source and it's here at home."

Randy Wingenroth, with Kalmar, a heavy equipment company out of Cibolo, said the industry is bringing big opportunities to his company.

Kalmar has produced heavy machinery for the government and is now focusing on the oil and gas industry, as well.

"The Eagle Ford area has been tremendous for our business, tremendous for the economy and will do as well for the next 10 20 years, maybe more," said Wingenroth.

The conference wraps up on Tuesday.

The closing keynote speaker is former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
