Time running out for Scooter Store
Company president: Sunday closing is likely
In its required notice of mass layoffs, Scooter Store CEO Martin Landon informed the Texas Workforce Commission that the company will likely close Sunday, putting its remaining 993 employees on "permanent layoff status."
In last week's letter, Landon wrote the motorized wheelchair company had secured financing to stay open until then.
He also the beleaguered company "is optimistic that further efforts will allow the New Braunfels facility to remain operational beyond that date."
According to Michelle Ross, the company's crisis management representative, the Scooter Store has the needed funds to meet its remaining payroll.
However, Ross said "a very small portion" of checks issued as hard copies were not honored by banks that have since been re-issued and now accepted.
Ross said it was due to a recent switch in payroll vendors.
