SAN ANTONIO -

A man was struck and killed by a train on the city's Northeast Side Sunday evening.

It happened along the southbound service road of I-35, near Walzem Road, around 6:15 p.m.

According to San Antonio police, engineers on the train saw a man walking northbound on the tracks at I-35 and Eisenhaur.

They said they sounded the train's horn and the man did look back momentarily, but he turned back around and kept walking.

The engineers told police they tried to stop, but by the time the train came to a complete stop it was too late.

The man's identity has not been released, but police believe he was in his 40s.
