The Texas Department of Transportation launched its Drink, Drive, Go to Jail campaign Monday to educate people about the consequences of drinking and driving.
The campaign kicked off at St. Mary's University, where there was a simulated jail cell and students slipping into orange jumpsuits to get a feel for the "go to jail" part of the experience.
Officers with the San Antonio Police Department asked students to walk a straight line while wearing goggles that simulate intoxication.
"We felt this was a great opportunity to bring education to the group before they got into school," said Samuel Aguirre, a TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist.
According to TxDOT, there were seven fatalities in DWI-related crashes over Labor Day Weekend in 2011, the lowest number since 2003.
