U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jeremy Breece has been selected as Dickies' "American Hero of the Year."
It's an award given out each year to a military hero. Breece was selected for his courage, integrity and dedication.
On Monday, Breece was given a check for $25,000 during a presentation at Fort Sam Houston. He was joined by his wife, Roxanne, who wrote the essay nominating him for the award.
"I wrote the essay because he's a great man. He's been through a lot," Roxanne Breece said.
As for Jeremy Breece, he was honored to receive the award, but also felt humbled.
" I feel a little guilty cause I was just doing my job and there's so many others who have done the same thing," Jeremy Breece said.
The Breeces say they've received lots of support through the military since Jeremy was injured. They want families of other wounded warriors to know there are many resources available to them.
