(CNN) -- Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced for the first time Monday that she supports marriage rights for same-sex couples, saying that "gay rights are human rights." Clinton had previously supported civil unions and partner benefits, but did not support same-sex marriage, when she ran for president in the 2008 primaries.
