U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than 6 tons of marijuana, with a value of more than $9.8 million, over the weekend.
Investigators say the largest bust happened Friday at the Falfurrias checkpoint when a drug-sniffing dog detected marijuana in the rig. Officers recovered more than 6,700 pounds of marijuana hidden in the trailer. The driver has been detained.
Another large seizure was made near Falcon Heights on Sunday. Agents responded to a report of suspicious activity when they found nearly 800 pounds of marijuana hidden under a plastic tarp on a vacant lot.
Border Patrol officials say smaller seizures brought the total amount of marijuana seized from Friday through Sunday to more than 12,000 pounds.
