VIA reports spike in ridership
High gas prices named as factor
With gas prices climbing steadily again, VIA Transit is enjoying one of its busiest months ever.
VIA President and CEO Keith Parker said improved services combined with the price of gas is making bus trips more attractive for people in all walks of life.
"For too long in San Antonio, people have thought of public transit as just for poor people. What we want to do is create a great ride for our every day customers while attracting more and new people," said Parker.
VIA broke ground on a new Bus Rapid Transit project Tuesday, which will offer customers a route from downtown all the way to UTSA along the Fredericksburg Road corridor, which Parker hopes will attract more customers to public transportation.
The BRT project is scheduled to be completed and in operation by December.
