There are plans in the works to change the face of the community close to Woodlawn Lake.
On Thursday, Walmart announced it would open a new store close to Woodlawn Lake, making it the megastore's 15th location in San Antonio.
Currently the property located in the 3031 block of West Woodlawn Avenue near Bandera road is vacant.
Yolanda Chavez, a West Side resident said she can't wait to see some change in that area.
"I just live a few blocks down," said Chavez. "So, yeah it would be perfect. I love Walmart."
Chavez said the closest Walmart to her now is the location at Bandera and Evers, which is too far for her to walk.
"I feel it would be a good location," she said. "You have a lot of people that love Walmart. I think it will be good."
Walmart officials are reporting that the new 150,000 square foot facility will bring in about 300 new jobs.
District 7 Councilman Cris Medina said that is good news for the efforts to bring growth inside the Loop.
"This new Walmart store will give a facelift to the Woodlawn-Bandera corridor by offering hundreds of new jobs and a new convenient shopping opportunity," Medina said.
And although talks of a new Walmart at Wurzbach Parkway on the city's North Side has sparked a lot of controversy, most residents around Woodlawn Lake seem to be looking forward to this store opening.
"I think it will be a good idea for everybody to have a closer place for people to shop," said Raul Valdez.
Walmart officials expect to open the store sometime next year.
