Woman charged in elderly check forgery case

A woman was arrested for allegedly stealing from her 82-year-old roommate.

An arrest affidavit stated Estella Roque, 56, wrote close to $900 worth of checks without the elderly woman's permission and cashed them.

Police say the elderly victim told them the signature on the bottom had been forged because she was in Mexico when they were written last October.

According to the affidavit, detectives got surveillance pictures from the bank and they say the victim immediately recognized the woman in the pictures as Estella Roque.

The affidavit stated Roque was renting a room in the woman's home. Roque has been charged with forgery and exploitation of the elderly.
