SAN ANTONIO -

As Blanca Avila came down the home stretch of the Cocoa Women’s Half Marathon Sunday, her boyfriend Daniel stood by the finish line and cheered her on.

When Blanca finished the race, the couple shared a congratulatory hug and kiss, and then Daniel dropped to one knee and proposed to her. Out of breath, and in shock, Blanca smiled and said, “Yes."

"I saw him and I was like, ‘Wait, why is everyone moved back?’” Blanca said. “I turned and saw my family and was like ‘Wait, what?' They told me they weren't going to come.”

As the crowd cheered wildly, the race’s public address announcer said, “I think she said yes. Talk about a lifelong commitment.”

Daniel planned the proposal for several weeks. During Blanca’s recent trip to Mexico, he turned to her sister for help in picking an engagement ring. He wanted to do something special for his now fiancée because this was the first race she ran by herself. Not one for the spotlight, he also had to summon up enough courage to propose in front of hundreds of strangers.

“I don’t like getting the attention really to be honest,” he said.

When asked if he was afraid Blanca would decline his proposal, Daniel said, “Not at all.”
