AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The world's first photograph is going on tour to Germany.

Joseph Nicephore Niepce's "View from the Window at Le Gras," depicting the view from the artist's upstairs window at his home in Burgundy, France, was taken in 1826 or 1827. It was acquired by the University of Texas' Ransom Center cultural archive in 1963.

The photograph will be loaned to the Reiss Englehorn Museum in Mannheim, Germany for an exhibit from Sept. 9 through Jan. 6, 2013. It will be sent back to the Ransom Center and returned to its permanent display in February 2013.

The Ransom Center obtained the photograph as part of its Helmut Gernsheim collection.
