SAN ANTONIO -

During a hearing before Judge Carmen Kelsey to determine whether Aaron Ruiz, 17, will be tried as an adult for capital murder, San Antonio police detectives outlined other offenses allegedly committed by Ruiz.

“When she told him she wasn’t going to sell him anything, Aaron tells her, 'My friends got a gun," Det. Adam Soto testified.

He was describing an attempted beer run and theft Ruiz allegedly took part in two days after Christopher Hinojos was shot and killed during a carjacking.

He said that Ruiz was arrested a short time later.

During the arrest, he allegedly assaulted the arresting officer.

Soto also testified that Ruiz is facing assault charges from an incident the day before Hinojos was murdered.

If Ruiz is certified to stand trial as an adult for Hinojos’ murder he will not be facing execution even though he is charged with capital murder.

The reason; he was a juvenile at the time of the murder.

Kelsey is expected to rule on the certification on Tuesday.
