In the pre-dawn hours of Christmas Eve 2009, Ezekiel Gilbert, 30, shot and wounded Lenora Frago.
Frago, 23, was working for an escort service and had visited Gilbert at his North Side apartment.
He paid her $150 for a half-hour visit but became angry as she left, according to the woman’s pimp, Christopher Perkins.
“He stated that the male in the apartment wanted sex and she said it wasn’t for sex, it was for her time,” San Antonio police Det. David Snow testified during Gilbert’s trial on Tuesday.
Gilbert fired several shots at a car occupied by Frago and Perkins as they drove away from the apartment complex.
Frago was shot in the neck and was paralyzed.
She died the following July.
Gilbert’s lawyers say the shooting was legal and justified.
They say Frago had stolen the money, since she did not deliver the sexual services Gilbert had expected.
If his is found guilty, Gilbert faces a maximum punishment of life in prison.
Testimony is expected to continue on Wednesday in Judge Mary Roman’s 175th District Court.
