SAN ANTONIO -

The second annual Girls Global Summit will be held on Saturday -- a one-day conference for women and young girls that features topics ranging from teen pregnancy to education.

“They obviously get a local perspective on it, in terms of what's going on in San Antonio, statewide, nationally, but then also looking at it, around the world,” said Dr. Lisa Uribe, Executive Director for Women’s Global Connection, the organization that hosts the event.

Almost 25 students, from schools across San Antonio, will lead group discussions after thoroughly researching their selected topic.

“Honestly, it's made me more confident, because whenever I go into the classroom, I start teaching the kids, and I realize that I can give out more education to them and help them learn,” said Jerrica Alva, a freshman at San Antonio Young Women’s Leadership Academy, and one of the student co-horts, leading a discussion on education and tutoring. “It shows that women are empowering, and we're actually able to show our leadership skills to one another.”

The Girls Global Summit is Saturday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry, 9725 Datapoint Drive. The event is free, and open to women and girls of all ages. To register for the event, click here.
