SAN ANTONIO -

An Amtrak train derailed near downtown Friday night after workers said the two front wheels came off the tracks.

The accident happened just before 9 p.m. on Alamo Street near Frio.

According to the San Antonio Fire Department, nothing hit the train to cause the front wheels to come off the tracks.

In total, there were 7 cars and the locomotive.

The conductor said 47 passengers on board have been accounted for and were OK.

Amtrak officials were on scene and were making sure the train was back in working order so they could get the passengers to their destinations safely.

The fire department didn’t know where the train was headed to or coming from.

It's not clear what caused the front wheels to come off the track.
