SAN ANTONIO -

Edna Ortega remembers her husband not only as a famous Tejano singer, but as a big animal lover.

After Mark Ortega was brutally murdered more than two years ago at their home, Edna made it her mission to start the MARK foundation, which stands for "Make Animal Rescue Kount".

The foundation is dedicated to helping shelter animals find forever homes.

"If we can help San Antonio become no kill because people realize they're going to get some type of assistance to take care of the animal when they initially get the animal , then hopefully we can go that direction," said Edna.

Edna works at the International Academy of Design and Technology and said her prayers were answered when students and staff made her vision a reality. Between 20 to 25 students helped create the logo. They listened to Ortega's music and saw some of his personal belongings.

"Mark being such an important figure in this that's how his image became a silhouette throughout  the project," said instructor James Ricks. "Edna described him as being very iconic figure in the Tejano and Christian community."

The MARK Foundation will officially be unveiled this Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Cadillac Bar, located at  212 South Flores Street, from 3-9 p.m . The event is free and open to the public.

"I'm hoping this goes national, I mean this would be such a tremendous thing for these students , this was their creation, was my vision, it was my husband's dream , I brought it to them and they brought it to life," said Edna.
