Apparatus procession held Friday to honor fallen firefighter Scott Deem

SAN ANTONIO – An apparatus procession was held Friday morning in honor of firefighter Scott Deem.

Fire trucks and emergency vehicles left the parking lot of the Alamodome around 9 a.m. Friday and headed to the church.

The emotional sendoff brought firefighters from across Texas.

“We’re celebrating Scott’s life and his service to the community and making the ultimate sacrifice. That’s what we are here to do today, is to honor him and support his family,” said Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Monestier, with the San Antonio Fire Department.

A local motorcycle club called Caliente also participated in the procession. The club is located next to fire station 35, where Deem worked. Chapter Director Frank Knapp said the firefighters visit the club frequently.

“These guys put their life on the line every day just like the military, first responders and stuff like that. And this gentleman … is leading the front, making sure people are safe,” Knapp said.

The procession moved along U.S. 281 North and made its way to the Community Bible Church, where a funeral service was held.
