Arrest made in shooting of couple outside NE Side restaurant

Police also identify 21-year-old man as second suspect

SAN ANTONIO – Demetric Mackey, 19, has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a couple outside a Northeast Side restaurant Monday night.

According to an arrest affidavit, he is one of two suspects in the shooting, which police called a "rolling gun battle."

Officers at the scene said they believed the trouble started at another location, leading to the shooting in the parking lot outside the China Sea restaurant on Thousand Oaks near Nacogdoches.

The affidavit said that more than 30 shots were fired at the couple, hitting the man and woman multiple times.

They told officers they were on their way to eat at the restaurant when the suspects pulled up in two different cars, got out and opened fire.

The victims both made their way to a nearby bowling alley and called for help. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The affidavit says one victim, just before being taken into the intensive care unit, was able to give police the names of both suspects.

Although the affidavit mentions the second suspect by name, it does not appear that the 21-year-old man has been arrested yet.

Mackey is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
