SAN ANTONIO – An attorney who practices law in Corpus Christi and maintains an office in San Antonio was arrested Wednesday for criminal solicitation of capital murder.
An arrest warrant was issued for Paul Andrews, 57, in San Antonio after a joint investigation by the District Attorney Susan D. Reed's Office and the Texas Rangers revealed he planned to have a man killed. That man is a key witness in a case where Andrews and another attorney, Keith Gould, 52, were indicted for the third-degree felony offense of barratry, arising from allegations that the two men paid a "case runner" to solicit and refer personal injury cases to their law firm.
An informant supplied information to the District Attorney's Office that Andrews had discussed with him his desire to have the barratry witness eliminated. After the Texas Rangers and the District Attorney's Office met with that informant, a second meeting occurred between the informant and Andrews confirming the plot.
Andrews was arrested in Corpus Christi. The criminal solicitation of capital murder charge is a first-degree offense. If convicted, Andrews could receive five to 95 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division and up to a $10,000 fine.
